| Hi all, After reading several of the postings, I feel more encouraged to apply for jobs in HK. So I was wondering what the best approach was in applying for an Advertising/Marketing job in HK being back in Canada. My basic background is that I'm a recent graduate from McGill University. I have a BComm in Marketing, have a HK citizenship, and can speak Cantonese. What do you think? I'd like to work for an ad firm. Any suggestions, advices or stories of experiences would be much appreciated. Cheers, Janice |

Be sure you want to work for an agency. Understand that politics are often fierce, hours long etc. Don't enter the business if it's because it seems glamorous, because there's more to it then that. Go to New York if you can. Work with the best. |

| Lano - do not get thrown off at all by people telling you that Cantonese is essential. Lots of non Cantonese speakers work in advtg agencies here, many of them in senior positions. Besides the agencies mentioned in this thread, I'd also try the bigger MNC agencies like Y&R, Leo Burnett, BBDO, TBWA. Try to contact someone right at the top - CEO/ Client Services Director names are easily available in Media magazine. I'd also try to find the HK office of the agency you were working for earlier. I'm surprised by Aquent's response to you - I thought they were usually pretty good. You might want to tap another recruitment agency called Ambition. Of course not having a work permit is an issue, but that can be easily overcome if one of the agencies really like you enough to sponsor you. All the best |

| I've looked at media jobs online but would be keen to get a copy of the magazine you refer to. HK doesn't have aWH Smith equivalent so can someone please tell me where I might be able to pick up a copy. |

| Hey, didn't mean to be vague, but all I know is that I'm interested in being part creating Advertisements. I have looked into what it is that I'm interested in specifically. For example on my cv, one of my career objectives is to be considered for a position in Account Management or Consultation (Creative or Strategic). Would that be too vague? I'm not interested in the glamour of things as I am extremely hard working. I just want a foot in the door with an Ad firm as Marketing for companies in their Marketing dept. does interest me, but not as much. Anyway, more help would be appreciate. Thanks guys. Janice |

Account Management is perfect. Consultation (Creative or Strategic) is too vague. If you are on the creative side, then you have a portfolio. |
