Couldn't agree more. That is exactly the experience we had. And on occassions when the s**t hit the fan so did they.

Hello all!

I'm a Computer Engineer by profession, 3 years experienced in Teaching and 3 years experienced working in an IT Company in the Philippines. I arrived here in Hong Kong last January and got married last May, now I have my Dependant Visa last June.Currently, I'm looking for a work right now but I'm havin a hard time to look. I've send almost 400 CV's to Jobsdb, Recruit and Careertimes but it seems I dont have luck. In my background, I know how to setup computer's installing OS from Windows 98, XP, Windows 2000 Professional and Server, Windows 2003 Small Business Server. I can setup Network fro Perr to Peer to Client Server, working with Active Directory, File sharing, Printer, typically on Network side. I do cabling also familiar with UTP Cat5. Troubleshoot computers and diagnose as well. Desktop publishing using Adobe Pagemaker and Microsoft Office. etc.....

Until now, I cant find work yet and I'm afraid that i cannot find a work related to my field. I feel bad about my career sometimes, espicially some advice me to study Cantonese first. I'm looking for a company right now where I can have an appreticeship. I dont crave for bigger salary. I'm a hard working person and can work with less supervision.

Hope you can help me guys...Cheers! Any advice please

yes its tough as there are a lot of locals with the same skills as you and also will work for peanuts and do have good cantonese and english skills.

Also employers here do want you to have mcp's cisco etc etc certification as well, If you don't have it then give up like I did and look at other opportunities.

Have you targetted the multinationals and also are you pricing yourself out of the market too?

HK Computer Forensics?

Hey Guys,

I know most of this thread has been about coding etc however, do any of you know what the situation is like in relation to computer forensics/IT Security?

I am coming to the end of my current post and am looking to relocate.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried outsourcing to the Philippines? At least in the business processing and call center business, their competitive edge is supposed to be the 'figure it out' problem solving ability.

Not sure if they're able to do so in the higher end IT profession, but it's supposed to be what they're known for on the call center side.

Oh of course its a big adjustment, I gave up my career in London and did the same thing by heading out to HK with no job or career prospects and spent my time networking and doing research for my new business.

The I.T contract/freelance market is pretty much non existant in HK so its a no go and not something you can depend/rely on.

any advice u can give me jimbo? currently i have some part time Computer Troubleshooting ( as technician in short) but the pay being freelance is not good. My plan right now is to look for a company where i can have an apprenticeship, as long as the company give me allowance, i would gladly take the offer or any other job vacancies...thanks jimbo for your reply...cheers
