Typhoon Saturday

Have it on pretty good authority http://severe.worldweather.org/ that force 8 Typhoon will make a direct hit on Saturday (AFL Grand Final Day).

Saltwater's tip: Now might be a good time to stock up on beer, party pies and chippies for the weekend. Also something about making sure your windows close properly.

Being relatively new to HK and having not experienced a Typhoon before what can we expect from a Grade 8?

The next few days will be among the most humid you've ever experienced. After that its gets kinda windy (not as much as you might think) and it rains a lot. Most shops and bars close, but a few stay open.

Seriously? nothing...

Past typhoon 8's have not lived up to their supposed reputation, only bringing in tons of rain, some moderately strong winds,..etc..

If you want an excuse to be out then, head over to Stormies for a typhoon special. I think they have specials on shooters during typhoons....

You obviously haven't looked at many typhoon forecasts before. What it actually says it that there is a 70% chance that it will pass within a few hundred km of here. That's a long way from saying there will be a direct hit - no-one can predict that with any reliability more than a few hours ahead.

And even so, this looks like quite a small storm - a bit like a normal windy day on the south coast of England say.

But if the HKO can possibly hoist #8 they will because HKers seem to think that no year is complete without at least one typhoon-day off work.

And at Stormies, my understanding from this page:
http://www.igors.com/sub.php?s=news&catid=3&newsid=5
is that the shooters are free while the #8 signal is up.

cerberus is an unknown quantity at this point.
HK weather extreme? heh heh ya lot make me laugh. there's almost nothing about HK that's extreme except noise pollution, everything else's pretty tame here, including the weather. this, of course, is generally a good thing. these typhoon warnings smack of scarmongering and wanting to have something to doodle with for lack of real action. fart storms in most parts of north america post a visit to Ronaldo's Football Sized Burritos makes these gusts pale in comparison.

yes, i am taunting nature.
