That'd be 12.30md. Heaven forbid Sydney actually win the thing. The AFL team just wants a team there to make money out of Australia's biggest market, not to take premierships away from Victorian (or SA or WA) clubs!

to answer the question on flying in typhoons, I landed for the first time in HK during a T8 warning. No one on the plane said anything about it aside from the pilot who said "Its a bit windy so we may be a few minutes late landing". That typhoon 'missed' HK so the only effect felt was a bit of wind. It was strange to arrive in central for the first time to find nobody about - I wondered why the guide books said it was busy all the time! Still it was an idea time to arrive in many ways as there weren't any people around to get in the way of me and my overly large bag containing everything I owned.

So they still land the planes during a typhoon warning - I suspect not when the wind speed gets too high. As for taking off I have no idea so this post isn't really of any discernable use!

Incidentally, when the China Airlines jet from Taipei landed at Chek Lap Kok some years ago, grazed the runway with its wingtip (big sparks) and flipped right over, it was a T-8 raging. Airport Control later said it's up to the airline what to do - they will give info but not close the runways in bad weather (cited "international practice").

bring it on jay, bring it on. i'd like to be proven wrong. however, next to an F5, mile wide tornado bearing down on you it has to be something spectacular to impress.

Hmmm...according the observatory's 7 day forecast, wind speeds won't get higher than force 6...go figure.
