not hard at all... go to department of transport, fill in a form, pay the fee. voila.

it depends on where your licence is issued, most western countries are on the list for direct transfer. If your country is not not on the list you will need to do the knowledge test, not sure about road test etc. For a bike, you need to do a course.

So I cannot drive a bike, even a low cc one, on a car license? Oh well. Just wanted a cheap low speed nip around.

yep, unlike Australia & New Zealand, where a car licence is fine, on motor scooters of an engine capacity, no greater than 50cc's.

Here in HK, you will have to get a specific motor bike licence classification.

even the bicycles with a battery powered motor is not allowed unless you have a bike license and 3rd party insurance (this is what i heard but could be wrong), if you cross the border everyone drives those around. they are quite good and environmentally friendly but HK does not allow them on the roads.

any bike with less than 80cc is not allowed on expressway/highways, you can only drive them on the small roads.

yeppo, that's correct. only bike allowed on roads in HK w/o licence is a pedal powered pushbike.

re mopeds/50cc bikes, even in Oz in some states you need a bike licence.

axptguy48 is on a distinguished road
Bike license course.

As mentioned above you can transfer your bike license from another country if you have one.

The course and license in HK will set you back a total of HK$ 7500. This is assuming you already have a car license, letting you skip the theoretical test. It takes several months mainly due to the waiting periods for testing.
