I am going to put an ad up in my local supermarket for someone eg high school student, to come to my home and teach my kids Cantonese through games.

Can anyone suggest a reasonable price bracket for me to start with? I am new to HK and don't know what to expect.

arr... I dont know whether you could received my previous post!! Anyway here is another one.

I myself have been giving tutorial to chinese kids for few years. In hk, the teachers charge the lesson according to few things. 1) age of the kids. 2) no. of the kids in a lesson. 3) the content of the lesson (eg you want it games liked). 4) the location of your home (if you live in somewhere not transportation convenience, the price may be higher). 5) the skill & experience of the teacher.

Here is a suggestion. Kids under 8 ~ hk$100/hr. 9-12 ~ hk$120/hr. 13-16 ~ hk$140/hr. 17+ ~ hk$160/hr. But the range could be different in different circumstances.

I wonder why no International schools teach Cantonese esp when so many foreigners are here in HK long term and some even grow up here.

I think the international school teach Mandarin rather than Cantonese? Mandarin is getting more important nowadays. But I think, you dont really need to learn Cantonese in HK. As long as you can understand a few word, it is ok. Cantonese is too difficult for non-chinese. There can be 9+ different way to talk about the same thing (my friends always joke about this). ^-^
