| | There are no really deadly snakes in HK (i.e. you always have time to get to the serum). In fact if you stay to paths rather than go hacking through the bush you won't see very many. I've probably seen 3 or 4 in 6 years of quite regular hiking - they've tended always to disappear off into the undergrowth very quickly when they detect me coming.
There's some good stuff online about HK wildlife. start here: http://www.hkbiodiversity.net/html/en/home.html

| | | cool,
so if i walk in my normal way, like a goof, making lots of noise and ranting to myself, i am bound to scare away both the muggers, and the snakes...

| | | some advices Hello,I lived in HK and this is my opinion below:
HK's someplace good to go,easy to get the locations by public traffic.its a different in other country, not easy to go if u don't have a private car.on the other side, some paths are not good for hiking by urself,i think those path are near to the city center coz the criminal pefer to doing their things on those site. Anothers, the paths are border to the china is not suggest to go by oneself ,coz the illegal-I is probably hide around those places.the photo in pervious reply is a nice shot for the spider,it really appear the most, but i think just on some location and they always stay away from the paths.but hiking in HK,at least u won't meet any tiger,bear,wolf,etc....

| | | A gang of monkeys tried to mug me for my food one time when I was trekking around Shing Mun. I'm not sure whether they were local or mainland monkeys though. |
