Living in repulsebay

We are planning to move to HK early next year. Having two small children (9 months and a 2 years old) the cleaner air in repulse bay has some attraction to us.
But what about the facilities? Are there any nice bars, restaurants etc. And how long would it be travelling to the area where danceclubs are located?
It is best when the children have some space and good air and us parents the possibility to go out and party.

Would Repulse Bay be a good location for all of us?

Thanks!
Sonja

Met, yes it is, if your housing allowance allows for it and you can tolerate a 40-70 minute commute into Central for work.

Don't expect much nightlife around Repulse Bay... there are some good restaurants in Stanley.. and if you like drinking with investment bikers who ride around on Harley Davidsons the Smugglers Inn might entertain you.

Having said that .. Central / Lan Kwai Fong and the rest of Hong Kong are a medium taxi ride away -- with $100 per trip.

In my opinion, I dont think that there is much to do in Repulse Bay - apart from the beach (but the sea water quality isnt that great). The commute to work will be long - windy roads, travel sick (or is that just me).
Nightlife is in Lan Kwai Fong in Central or Wan Chai.

There are other areas to consider but overall I would suggest that you come to HK first and to see what you like and what you dont like. Most people stay in a service apartment whilst they make a more permanent housing decision.

Repulse Bay is a good choice for a quieter life close to the beach. Also consider Middle Bay / South Bay just next to Repulse Bay. As KIA says you need a good housing allowance for that area - as an indicator one of the guys at work has a 2800sqft place which costs 70k(hkd) a month to rent.

Just a word of advice on noise. Repluse Bay Road has all the Stanley Busses running on it and they make a fair old noise grinding up the hills on either side of the Bay. This is made worse by the wall of buildings facing the sea which for what ever reason seem to amplify the noise. Choose somthing back off the road or more towards the South Bay end where the road loops away from the front.

and tai tam vs repulse bay?

tHANK YOU GUYS!

I think our h.allowance will be around 50 k.
Would you say repulse bay is boring? And Knowitall, you are saying that a taxiride to central is 100 hong. dollar? Which is around 7 english pounds? Wauw! That is a good prize!

And what do you think of tai tam vs repulse bay?

(We will first live in een serviced flat before renting but i would like to know where to start looking, i have two small children and have not got the time to look everywhere).
