PDLM... i don't know what you are referring to.

my thread referred to antony leung, not donald tsang, who was finance minister in 2003 before i left HK. as far as i know sir donald was not involved in anything, which could be why nothing shows up in any sort of internet search?

i was just on the phone with my cousins who live in HK (born and raised there unlike me so i'm hoping they would know more) and they also don't recall anything about sir donald importing a MB either... was it that hush-hush?

In the year 2000, Mr Donald Tsang bought a brand new MB S320 in the UK. As he had it licensed in the UK, he was able to bring it to HK as a second-hand car which had saved him 260k HK dollars from tax. He was critizised for deliberately avoiding tax but he denied.

One point that might be raised is 'where are you going to live'? Are you going to be in Stanley or the Midlevels for example (or Disco bay where a car wouldn't be allowed I think).

I use cabs extensively when I'm in HK, and public transport when I have a bit more time to kill or looking for a long trip. But in a situation like mine, I had 3 major grocery stores within 3 blocks of my apartment, dozens of restaurants and loads of other things all within walking distance, even if I had a kid.

I really think a car would be a hell of a hassle. With nannys abundant and cheap, and living situations so compact that your daily needs are often a few steps away, a car would really be a bit of a pain.

Sell the Picasso, Citroen do not have any outlets in HK so if someting went wrong with the car you would spend months waiting for it to be fixed unless it was one of the common parts shared with Peugeots. French cars here aren't very tolerant of the humid climate. If it's a diesel version forget it anyway, diesels are frowned upon in HK unless it's a commercial or public transport vehicle.

Personal transport in HK is extremely expensive and public transport is extremely cheap, reliable and abundant. I have a car but mainly for my work, I probably wouldn't bother if it wasn't for that - too many customers in far flung areas of HK around New Territories. But if you're down HK side forget a car, it simply isn't worth it

Sorry to bring this old thread up... but I am thinking about importing my 2 year old Mercedes Benz E320 CDI Avantgarde into Hong Kong... but the first question is - is it possible as it is a diesel car?
