| Hi, I am a British born British citizen with mixed Asian (non-Chinese) and English ancestry. I moved to Hong Kong in 1987 just before turning the age of 9, and left in 1993 just before turning the age of 15, to return to the UK. I make that approximately 6 years. I had an ID card whilst living in Hong Kong, but never gained a permanent one - I gather it is seven years. My mother still lives in Hong Kong and holds a permanent ID card. I recall looking at the ID website a few years back and reading that I would only be eligible for a permanent ID card and right of abode if I had Chinese ancestry (quite how this can be proven/not proven beyond DNA testing, I do not know). I would be grateful if anyone could advise whether I have a case or not for right of abode/permanent ID card in Hong Kong? I went there recently as I usually do, but this time I have a strong urge to go live there again. Despite spending only 6 years there, they were formative years and I truly feel at home in Hong Kong. Thanks for your help. |

| did your mother have PR when you were born or did she get it afterwards? if you are born to a HK PR then you are eligible for it....(as far as i know).... you can always contact immigration yourself to ask. |
