Boracay

Any hotel recommendations for Boracay? I plan on going Christmas week. I want something clean, modern, right on the beach but also quiet and for $100 or under per night. Bungalows would be better than hotel style. I looked at Fridays website and it seems to be what I want but it is too expensive....isn't that how everything is in life. You work hard to find something you like and it is always outside of your budget. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

My GF and I spent a long weekend at Mika's Place in Boracay. A very small place (maybe 8 rooms) on Dini Wid beach so very quiet. It's a 15 min walk to Fridays for example. Rooms are probably 3 star, def. not luxury but who spends alot of time in the room anyway? This was for non-air con (fan only) and mosquito net (very comfortable in spite of the 30C+ heat. Beach is on your front door, a few nearby rest. (would recommend any tho - go to white beach to eat).

Price was around $60US/night.

when I was there a few years back we just rocked up and wandered along the beach until we found somthing that fitted - that way you get the best choice. There were plenty of places to choose from!

Is anywhere!?
As with all travelling you have to take the usual precaustions, and if they tell you not to take a boat at night listen to them (it usually means that pirates are out). Generally I had no probs there at all thought. Everyone was really friendly. I would recommend going with one other person though if you want to explore the islands, as some of it is quite remote.

I'm sure they were joking about the pirates! The only pirates I know of on the island are the friendly 'Red Pirates' who offer snorkeling trips around the island on their native sailing boat.
Boracay is pretty safe for a woman alone - just take basic precautions and use common sense. Keep an eye on your possessions, don't wander around deserted areas alone at night or when you've been drinking.
For decent budget accomodation, head for the area south of boat station 3 - there are lots of nice value-for-money places there, and it's not as crowded.
