Aussie make up artist in Hong Kong!

Hi all,

I am a make up artist from Australia who just moved to Hong Kong without any knowledge of how to tap into this industry at all.

Even though I have an extensive experience back home, being an alien myself in this new place it's quite daunting. I know it's all about network, network and network.

As an english speaker, I don't even mind start doing hair & make up for the ex-pats for any functions to start off with. However, how can I make myself known to them? Through media, local paper or etc ... very puzzling!

Thank you for any help.

Cheers.

Do you have business cards? I think they will definitely come in handy.

If not, I think they can be done in HK relatively cheaply (I'm not sure where though).

a few places to advertise....
1) geoexpat resource pages (free)
2)hkdollarsaver (10 words~$160/insert...comes out every 2 weeks)
3)inside DB~classified section (first 28 words $155~if you place for 3 months 10% off, 6 months~20%, 12 months $30%)
3)hk magazine(no idea of cost)
4)south china morning post (no idea of cost~they have a little "beauty" section at the bottom of one of the classified sections)
5)other expat websites(can't name them here, i don't think)

that should get you started! good luck!(i'm a beauty therapist, would love to learn more about make-up though~have taken a few courses, but not enough)

Hi all

Does anyone have names for any event management or advertising agencies in Hong Kong? Would like to send my make up portfolio to any of them.

Thanks for your help.

i don't know anything about the make-up industry, but i have asked a local friend who is a freelance make-up artist. Generally, the local make-up industry is a small/closed network, events requiring make-up artists are not generally make known to the public. The local make-up institutes would be closer to these network, probably as a first step, you can find a job in these make-up institutes and get closer to the industry.
Just let me know if you need more information, Good Luck!
