Dirty Air?!

Have been in HK for 2 months now....

When we first arrived I was pleasantly suprised to see blue skies....not that different to a blue sky in Oz!!!! However over the past three weeks it has got progressivey worse. Jeepers how bad can it get?????

We were out on a junk all day yesterday and returned back with a hell sore throat/ chest and a spluttering baby.....Couldn't even see the city buildings as we came back to causeway bay to dock.....so much for a nice day outdoors. This has just got to be sooo bad for little ones lungs! and of course ours...!

Need some reassurance.....(or just lie to me) is the pollution exceptionally bad at the moment?

cheers

What you're seeing now is a common thing, but it will clear up soon and be a lot nicer. From October on to christmas will be nice.

same here suzie, expected HK to be a lot better than mainland cities up north. in my mind it was always clean here, but i guess i was misguided. indeed, the last week has been making LA look good.

Haze is very common in HK but it gets worse when a typhoon is passing east of HK. This was the case during the last 2-3 days.

has it always been like this or is it new? and i hope it isn't HK proper generating this crap. if it comes from the mainland, then at least we can claim a moral higher ground. i remember once a huge cloud of pollution ended up on top of colorado, so having it travel to HK's feasible. waste and environmental hazards have long been among china's leading exports (along with beggars). on the other hand, this city is among the noisiest, most uncaring places i've ever been to so perhaps we're also creating this "haze" ourselves?
