Whay don't you use your phone? If for example your Australian friend's mobile number is 0402 xxx xxx, then sms to +61402xxxxxx . They will see your number as +852xxxxxxxx .

I think granville wants to keep costs down by using a web-based sms utility.

in the past i have had lots of problems even sending SMS form Oz to HK. it depends on which carrier your mobile phone co sleeps with in the other country. from Oz "3" wont send SMS to Peoples etc, but will send ok to SmarTone etc... also Peoples would not send to "3", and nor would SmarTone more than half the time. |

I used to send quite a lot of SMS's using my phone, but at 3HK$ each International SMS it was a lot. For example, you can have an unlimited conversation using 0088 (fixed line), or if you have say 2Meg data option (3G), thats a lot of ICQ/MSN messages. I gave up trying any Web based SMS.

i'm back and forth from HK to Oz. i carry a HK stored value SIM, my wife SMS's that (free if same network, or local SMS at worst) and i reply from Aussie mobile (standard SMS charge 20c each even international, still dearer than HK but best in Oz). Means i carry 2 fones, but since both small, and it saves us half of our previous fone bill, it small sacrifice... oh, and in Oz i have the car, so i dont care how much i carry around! most likely there is a better solution, but at present i dont have the time or energy to find it!
