We "may" be moving to HK from London in the new year (my work sponsored..) - but the exact start date is potentially flexible. Having read lots of (really useful ) threads on this site, I already have sussed out that "1 or 2 months in a serviced apartment before we find a permanent place" route is the one to go for. However I was wondering if the Chinese new year extensive holidays (in jan?) would make January basically a write-off in terms of looking for somewhere permanent - and so would it better to pitch for coming out starting in Feb ? any thoughts - or other seasonal factors we should be aware of ? thanks in advance!

Avoid the CNY period when practically everyone is on go slow for at least a week before. Try moving just before e.g. Dec/Jan or just after. Early Jan is always a good time with many people going back after their contracts or many rentals coming up for the calendar year renewal.

ohhh....one other thing. Feb is pretty much the coldest month but coming from London, this should not be a problem for you. Btw, we are also from London but moved here from Tokyo in June.
