I'm a big fan of Little britian,David Walliams and Matt Lucas are brilliant.Ricky Gervais also, watched The Office,Extras and Animals.

And I've watched Life of Brian(Biggus....Dickus!),Blackadder (Actually I found the guitarist in Cavern looked like Baldrick last time when I was there!)The fast show (Love it,classic. Oh....Bugger!) There's some old comedies on BBC Prime also.Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh Betty!..............

No one has mentioned Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em with Michael Crawford as Frank Spencer.

And also BREAD with Peter Howitt.

And Hale & Pace.

Maybe because the thread title was 'Funny' British Comedies?

Just winding you up - each to their own

Didn't see it mentioned - 'Game On' was pretty good in my view - particularly if you like Sam Janus.

Otherwise loads of good recommendations here. My current favourite is probably Black Books with Dylan Moran and Bill Bailey... and on a book theme - how about The Book Club - that was weird and hilarious.

Marion & Geoff had a bit of a rave following at my old work - not my fave tho. Perfect World was alright if Paul Kaye doesn't wind you up too much.

Oh yeah - and what about Happiness - that was pretty good too. Finally, going back a bit - Jeeves and Wooster (if you like Fry & Laurie).

I think British comedy is definitely the best in the world because comedy there attracts top notch talent. Almost every other comedian or comedy writer is an Oxford or Cambridge graduate.

Anyway, here's a few of my personal faves:

Little Britain, The Catherine Tate Show, Dead Ringers, The Ali G Show, Have I Got News For You, Rory Bremner Show, Blackadder Series 3 & 4, The Office, Alan Partridge, Jack Dee Show, Jonathon Ross and yes, I agree....Benny Hill.

Plus you've got amazing stand ups like Eddie Izzard, Dara O'Brien, Dylan Moran, Harry Hill, Jack Dee, Lee Evans, etc etc.

There is loads of free comedy on BBC Radio. Go to BBC website, Radio, then Radio 4 or Radio 7. There are loads of classics like Just A Minute, Sorry I Haven't A Clue, The News Quiz, Dead Ringers and so on. Plus there's a comprehensive guide to British comedy and comedian profiles and stuff.

I mentioned Ali G. Anyone read this? www.hbo.com/alig/harvard.html You have to read it the way Ali G would say it for the full effect.

As to where to get all this? Why of course, the internet. Uknova, Newnova, thepiratebay, wherever you can find it.
