----->....but, yes, I was there waiting for you. I'm honestly quite insulted that you'd think I'd stand you up.

hang on a minute...!...am i supposed to be a psychic too??!

----->Would you like to apologize now or later?

and what am i apologising for?!

----->The guy that tried to pick him up outside the toilets took care of that. He was none too pleased (not that there's anything wrong with gay bars, I've been going to Bar George for years)

there was a bit of gay pride going on in club 97 too on saturday..i'd to make sure that the guy who came to chat me up there wasn't gay..

saltwater - so are you still coming to that buffet dinner next wednesday?..i want to see if you really can be cheeky with me face-to-face.. ...bring your pa too...

saltwater:

i'm coming in jan/feb for my honeymoon and both my partner and i are into electronica/dancing and checked out yumla online from suggestions from this forum..

i posted on their forum boards but i think they've taken it down..

we like the styles of music they play and it looks like the sort of place we'd frequent at home..

i gather there isn't too much breaks/house/dnb in HK so we're keen to check yumla out when we get there..

btw i am also a bald-headed aussie [korean background though]

Hiya,

Wow things must be going off in South Australia at the moment with the footy finals this weekend. Go the blues!

You're right - there isn't a lot of 'real' dance music in HK, but if you know where to look there are still some great nights to be had. Unfortunately there's far too much RnB going out there and not enough trance, breaks or *real* dance music...

Yumla's always got something going on, you can check their website to see which nights are on when you're actually here. Its one of the few clubs in HK that manages to get a dancefloor happening. Some of the other clubs like Drop are worth a look too, though it can be tricky getting in. Look out for one-off DnB / trance / breaks nights while you're here - they'll list them on www.hkclubbing.com. If you're really into dance music, HK will disappoint you. Having said that, if you know where to look its still possible to find a great club with a really friendly crowd and have a great time.

cheers!

hah i'm not too into the footy, but it is hard to miss at this time of year.. big game this weekend, both our home teams playing each other for a spot in the finals..

we're pretty good at making our own fun, but i thought it'd be nice to go out at least one night to hear some good music and have a boogie.. as a break from all the eating, shopping and sightseeing we're planning

If you had to describe life in HK in three words or less, eating and shopping would just about do it. Expats of course would add drinking, but that goes without saying.

Enjoy!

For the older ones amongst us (who prefer their music to have old-fashioned stuff like a melody, and a rhythm where there is more variation than simply "is it a 140bpm electronic thump or 150bpm", and not to double the average age in the bar when we walk in), then Sticky Fingers in TST, near the Kowloon Shang has a great band and an older crowd.

Other good bars:

The Dickens Bar downstairs at the Excelsior (for the sport, occasional real ale straight from the barrel, and the food)

The Hong Kong Brew House - for a great selection of beers on tap and bottled, and great tables outside for watching the LKF world go by (and because of Anna the FOH supervisor)

Bert's at the FCC for live jazz, pool, cheap drinks (spirits HK$20-25, budweiser $15, ...), good solid food. You need to be with a member.

The Main Bar at the FCC for the best sports screens in town (and the same food and drinks as above). Again, with a member.

Feather Boa on a quiet night for the unique environment and great drinks.

The Globe if what you want is a very simple, straightforward pub (though it can be a bit cliquey, with a lot of regulars).

Staunton's for watching the world go by up the escalator.

Boca for an excellent wine list and very good tapas.

Skitz for some serious pool playing and a variety of sports screens around the place.
