Now Broadband TV

Just wanted to let you folks know that --- both the numbers I checked on today, are capable of Broadband TV.

Here's what I've figured out so far.

-- Installation is free for an undetermined amount of time
-- Programs are free till end of Sept
-- Channels fees are being determined
-- You can have 1.5/3/6Mbps connection on your broadband even though your line has to be 6Mbps capable

I have no clue how they're going to wire the set top box as the broadband connection is in the bedroom and the telly is .. well in the living room. Should make for an interesting day when they come over to install.

Probably going to do the switch on Sunday.

Keep us in the loop. Re your bedroom BB to telly connection, I had the same question (OK study not bedroom in our case) - which is why I asked about wireless possibilities in the other thread. Maybe they'll come armed with an Orinoco kit and try to sell you that.

what two numbers did you check out?
why would you have a 1.5 o3 on a 6m line?
dont waste a sunday waiting for the pccw twerps to turn up they think they work 6 days a week.
why are you still running the $10 beer ad- I was there on the 29th, the last possible time to take advantage of their incredible offer. Believe me it was an incredibly bad experience- so bad that I don't want to talk about it [and that is saying something]
btw my 48 hours to receive a call from my NOW rep end in about 11 hours.
I'm not holding my breath

Now now ...

After Dhruv was born that was the only piece of real estate (3x3 feet) that was assigned to me.

kennoel is on a distinguished road
Now Broadband TV

The number to call would be 2888 1888

For limited period the installation is free.
They need to change your modem and will wire it up from where the modem is to where the TV is located.

For the first 2 weeks after installation ALL channels are free!
After that then you need to pay.

At the moment there will be 4 completely free channels
Asia news and events
Travel
Religion
International relations

Fifth will be introduced in Nov related to weather and traffic news

For other pay channels these will be per month based and can be as cheap as $5 per month. Movie channels for family viewing costs $35 per month.

To subscribe to a channel this will be thru the remote feature and cancelation of the channel is also controlled via the remote.

It might be worth it just for some additional news and travel news!

The PCCW guy came over .. poked around and then mumbled something about, I've got an existing connection, so they need to get some work order or something and left expressing total inability to do anything.

Paul, Apparently you cannot. One of the things the installer mumbled about was needing a termination order from my existing ISP because they needed to change the switch that I was on.

Another thing that delayed the installation is the wiring.

My broadband modem is in my bedroom and the set-top box will have to be installed in the living room. This is a no-no, as the set-top box needs to be connected directly to the broadband modem.

I have to take a trip down to Wanchai Computer Center and investigate wireless broadband routers and also a USB based wireless adaptor for my desktop.

I'd foreseen the same thing in my flat, so I'm waiting to see how the guinea-pigs make out. Thanks for the blow by blow accounts. I have Netvigator's 6mbps BB (they upgraded it from 3mpbs because I didn't negotiate unlimited, and pay them a decent usage amount - too lazy) but am not holding my breath till I have a solution (like wireless) not involving a 40ft wire drawn across the corridor and living and dining room floors of my flat.
