| | | Tap Water hey do you drink the water here? always assumed twas safe seeing as this is HK after all, but everyone says they don't touch it coz "it comes from China". oooggh. they also say they boil/filter it, then add there's metals and crap in the supply. doesn't make any sense! boiling/filtering can't remove heavy metals unless you got access to Roswell black ops technology we're not familiar with yet.
and i gave up asking locals, they're east asians and as such wouldn't drink tap water if it came from the freakin fountain of youth.
what do you louts have to say for yerselves?
thanks! | |

| | | I had an expat mate who worked on the new water treatment plant near Taipo. He told me that the tap water (drinking, not flushing!) in HK is excellent but the pipes and water tanks in many residential areas are poorly maintained. This often means the water looks murky, I use an inline pipe filter with a replaceable cartridge and the water looks/tastes good, a lot cheaper than a dispenser. | |

| | | Yeah.. no problems with tap water if you boil or filter it.
The water in Hong Kong generally exceeds WHO standards. Most problems are "last mile" problems once it enters your building's plumbing. | |

| | | I agree with Andyb the tap drinking water quality is very good but in older buildings is spoilt by the poor condition of the pipes. It it is the slightest bit murky I would not drink it. Otherwise you can boil and chill before drinking or use a filter (tap or standing). These vary in price depending on how many stages of filtration they provide. The more the better. | |

| | | Yep the water itself is fine... just do a quick test at home to see how the quality in your building is. If it comes out clear its ok... it it comes out with any kind of brown or grey your pipes are stuffed, so its best avoided at all costs - even after boiling it. | |

| | | Can any one suggest a good tap filter ? I am currently boiling my water in one of those electric kettles which I am not entirely comfortable with .... since the rule is to boil water for 20 mins to kill all germs !!! | |
