I keep getting sick!

I have been living and working here since January. I have been enjoying it here a lot, except I keep getting flu/sore throat/dizzy ! Every few weeks I get flu like symptoms. I thought it would end in the summer, but it hasn't. It is driving me crazy, can't live like this constantly getting ill.

What could be the problem? Bad food? I am living with my girlfriend and in North Point, so maybe the fact that I live with locals has an effect? I also work with locals.

Anyone else experience this? My general health is great, and I rarely got ill in my native Canada, even with -30oC winters!

Could be an issue with the pollution or an allergy specific to where you live (dust etc).

Have you been tested for allergies?

Drink water, get plenty of rest... that's all they say like a broken record!

I just wanted to know if others experienced the same thing when they first came here.

Sounds the same as a friend of mine when they first arrived here, exactly the same. In time it got better. as previously mentioned was thought to be down to a combination of bad air, heat, humidity. It may do you the world on good to go to the south of the island sometimes to get some fresh air.
Lets face it, the north of the island is one big germ.

Thanks KIA and angie. That allergy test might be a good idea.

On the topic of doctors, I notice some 'Doctors' only have a B.Sc (Bachelor of Science) after their names. Is that allowed in HK? I thought Dr. was a legal term, and a Doctorate of Medicine was needed to use it.

It is a legal term.

And from what I gather, they even have to learn the HKMA theme song

It's a good excuse to try all the local, tropical fruits which are too expensive to eat in the west. Make up a fruit smoothie of papaya, mango, kiwi, aloe vera and/or a combination of others. You'll find not only your health gets better but also your vitality, energy, skin and other things which only your girlfriend will be able to thank you for!

Baron is an unknown quantity at this point.
Also sometimes happens to people when they sleep with airconditioners on every night. Make sure the filter is cleaned out at least once a fortnight. Make sure you use a filter on the water tap in kitchen also.
