Thumbs up Wow!

Cerberus! I was gobsmacked to read your review of the last two bands - I should get you to write reviews at future Undergrounds!! Can I take these two reviews and add to Underground website? We can credit it to 'Cerberus' or another name if you prefer!!!

Thanks so much for coming down! It's really exciting to expose these bands - some are gems aren't they (I really like The Train) and some are raw but they all have something to play and sing about and there are people like you Cerberus who want that.

My goal is that Hong Kong will only be a world city when it's music scene is comparable to London, New York or Sydney/Melbourne. So yes besides being dressed in red last night, I also have a passion!

Keep going to Underground and you'll see one of my bands perform too

Thanks to HKFella who did pop in and introduced himself to me. What a trooper, coming in after a long day. He's also in love with D~Head's amazing female vocalist.

See you guys on October 13th!!

indie whatever

Hardcore/thrash metal comes via King Lychee who played an all ages show last Saturday at Venue with a couple of other bands that were pretty good. King Lychee are solid. It was all ages, there was quite a pit going there (really good vibe). Check their site for regular updates. The Warehouse in Aberdeen gets some too. NoFX are playing in November in Central. Embarrassing music scene for a city this large. Venues are too rare and HKers too conservative...

hey baron there are indie outfits in HK, try Whence He Came, they're awesome and their second CD's readily available at HK Records/HMV for like 125-135 bucks.
3nor4, thx a mill for the links, will keep an eye on the underground and see if any shows come our way.
keep this thread alive we need to support the city's music culture before its too disneyfied.
Support the scene and it will grow. I think there is enough interest, but limited promotion (where are the flyers?) and lack of venues. I could help if I knew how. I'm a designer with contacts to stateside promoters in San Francisco and a large event company (we put on Harbourfest) in HK...

The Bloc Party CD is awesome. So far, my favourite of 2005. The remix album is OK, but I'm hard-to-please when it comes to remixes.

I'm a journalist here in the city and I'm trying to get more HK music coverage at the publication I work for. Can anyone recommend record labels for me to get in contact with?

I echo everything that Cerberus said about last night - including my coming late after having to go home first, except that I managed to catch a bit of Dump as well. Awesome talent, energy and passion on the stage - apart from the aforementioned female lead of D-head, The Train's lead is a natural. And their cerebral-looking lead guitarist and drummer were equally solid.

Fairly crowded venue, must say. Most being locals with a smattering of foreigners. Suspect many of the former were friends of the bands. But that doesn't mean it's a locals-only scene. Far from it. As cerberus' and my accounts testify, this is a scene that can be enjoyed by locals, expats/foreigners (and, sure, visitors to HK) alike. Word needs to get around the expat "community" and they will come. A big blast of fresh air and creativity after the safe and rather boring conventional cover bands scene in HK. Highly recommended. Don't miss out!

It was cool getting to meet bbchris (at last), yes the one in red. If last night was anything to go by, hers has been an amazing effort - this labour of love obviously - to create these opportunities for performers and audiences alike, make this whole scene happen and keep it going. And apparently growing too(!), with frequency being stepped up to twice a month, alternating for now between Edge and Venue.

Turned out to be a great decision to turn up! Thanks, chrisbb. And Cerberus, for your "review".

How about Aroom Records?

Aroom Records.
Davy Chan's label (Davy is ex-LMF) has recently signed HARDPACK who are in fact playing at the next Underground #13! (13 October)
Then there's 89268 music label
Then there's Love & Peace Music label.
There are heaps - just go out and buy some CDs by Indie artists!

Thanks HKFella for the nice follow up to Underground 12.

Sure we can have more reviews - no harm whatsoever!

heh heh review competition. well, didn't mean them as reviews, just a regular post. you should see me go on for real.
bbchris, if you'd like to include that account in the website, that's fine, i'll be honored.
kudos also to HKfella and bbchris again. and it will be awesome to see you on stage! one of your bands? how many you got? haha.
anyway, oct 13 sounds like a great date. and bbchris you didn't really answer my question: where can i get d-head sounds from? any specific places?

ok, all the best!
