WOW! Thanks for mentioning Underground Indie music in Hong Kong is THRIVING! Thanks to the earlier poster who mentioned UNDERGROUND! The next one is on next Thursday, we 've got four great bands (The Train, D~Head, Dump and Third Eye Open) see this link for more info on the bands performing: http://undergroundhk.com/upre.html Starting in October, we will have TWO Underground shows a month. We've even had World Battle of the Bands winners play at our previous events, here's a list of the previous Underground events with links to photos and band reviews: http://undergroundhk.com/past.html And did I mention it's ALWAYS FREE ENTRY to UNDERGROUND events? We need your support and attendance to show that there IS a demand for music other than Canto-pop! Thank you! Chris B

Yes! 10pm? You'll get to see the last two bands - still worth it!! This would be the Train (who are really energetic and great - punk) and D~Head (who are absolutely great - pop/funk/rock). Usually the Underground ends at Venue around 11:30pm. Oooh! I've been recognised! Yes I'm ex-Sisters of Sharon! Do I know you HKFella?

Anyway, sounds like quite an opportunity to check out original live music scene tomorrow. Had no idea Venue with its establishment/club facade (you know impressions of dj's jerking around vinyl amidst over-synthetically produced sounds) was that kind of place. Would never even have thought of entering there, if it weren't for your post. Cheers. |

the latest white stripes album get behind me satan is definitely worth checking out, esp. if you like your rock tinged with blues & country. i just borrowed the magic numbers LP off a friend and that's pretty good too. i downloaded a couple of bloc party tracks and they're pretty cool, slightly new wave-ish

Chris B, Shall try my best to make it there, despite a sudden, er, shall we say, an unwanted 'work-life balancing act' challenge that came out of left field this morning at the office (and to call it stressful would be a gross understatement). Will be a pleasure to introduce myself - thank you much (assuming I make it, and the crowds allow one through!!). But this thing about "your reinterpretation of local original live music" (quote) - may be a tad too big a cross for a non-musician like yours truly to bear (HKF sweats!) Cheers, HKF

just came back from underground at the venue and it rekindled my love for live music, something that has been dormant for a while now. it was awesome seeing people play again and enjoying the various crowd characters...seems like every indie type was represented. a really touching experience! and bbchris, if that was you in the red outfit, you were pipin hot. anyway, came in late and so got to see train and d-head. train's music was tight and executed with sheer aplomb, their lead is definitely one to watch for. he's got all the moves, the look and charisma worthy of a bonafide alternative outfit. their originals and covers all worked, and doing the killers' mr. brightside had me hopping. d-head: what a joy! they had everything going for them despite a style that's all over the shop, starting with a superb shoegazing number then going on to the cure-esque themes and even a bit of cranberries thrown in (even though i personally don't much like the latter influence). the female singer/keyboardist is among the best vocalists i've heard in a long time, and has a tremendous stage presence coupled with a knack for comedy that didn't go unnoticed. sorry i failed to catch her name, but she seems capable of genuine vocal overtures minus the often annoying OTT facial pyrotechnics, which is a blessing. where can i get their stuff? in short, thanks for putting it all together and count me in for two weeks later.
