Stamp duty on HK apartment rentals?

Is it correct that the HK Government charges stamp duty on leases/rental agreements for properties in HK?

The amount involved is small - HK$140 has been quoted by the letting agent - with payment split between owner and tenant - but it's all extra expense!

The lease in question is on Lamma, so are the Islands a special case?

Yes, there is a stamp duty and it is usually shared.

It's either shared or covered by the agent (who should certainly be the one arranging for it to happen). But either way, do it. You never know when something might happen that you need to provce that you have a legally registered lease, and it's a trivial amount of money.
