| | | Gaming Laptop hi everyone! anyone here knows about gaming laptop?
i'm canvassing right now, and planning to buy one this coming september..
i heard computer thingy is cheaper in sham shui po..so i'll try to look there.
anyone knows where can i get a good gaming laptop? also, a reasonable price i'm looking for...
about 8,500-9,000 HKD.
i love playing warcraft III, and battle for middleearth. it's just so cool!
however, i don't own a desktop here in HK...i'm kinda missing these games back home...=(
anyway, i've brought installers with me...haha!
toshiba a70 (128 MB ATI Radeon Graphics) is a candidate for me. =)
or anyone have a suggestion? i would appreciate it much...
some specs i'm looking into:
- great graphics adapter to handle games
- not too small screen
- fast processor and enough memory
- wi-fi
- dvd-rom/cd-r
the size doesn't matter much, 'cause i won't travel with it most of the time. i'll just use it
in my room. but as long as it doesn't look like a brick!
hope to hear some thoughts soon!
thanks! cheers! | |

| | | About a year ago I thought about getting a laptop/notebook for general purpose use/video encoding/gaming but my research on the subject suggested that I should get a desktop instead.
If you can get a laptop with a GOOD graphics card with atleast 128Mb of video ram then that's a good start. The main cpu should be atleast 1GHz and not a cut-down Celeron or Duron. Ram should be atleast 512Mb. Ofcourse the larger the screen the better.
I am not familiar with the games you mention in your post but a glance at the retail boxes will tell you the recommended computer specifications. | |

| | | I have to agree with discobay, a desktop PC is MUCH better for gaming. I'm a massive gamer and i wouldn't even consider getting a laptop for that purpose. I would also look at a 256Mb graphics card as many newer games need it now. Even for games like WCIII, it will run smoother with 256Mb, and it also prepares you for graphic heavey games like 'Battle for Middle Earth 2' and 'Warhammer' which i'm sure you'll want to buy. It's also easier with a desktop to change/upgrade the hardware to keep up with your needs. At least you can then have more than one Hard-drive for storage. | |

| | | Yes Baron is right go for a desktop. Try not to adopt the attitude of "Hong Kong's not my home so I want to be mobile". Besides you will not be able to get a decent laptop configuration for that price - second-hand maybe. | |

| | | Is it really worth buying a laptop for just the 4 month gap? Unless you plan on using it later on for other stuff of course, otherwise i would wait. Have you looked if there is anywhere that hire desktop PC's per month? | |

| | | if you buy a desktop with a flat screen - you can send the flat screen home fairly cheaply as they dont weigh much, and just take the components out of the desktop and send them home, buy a new case when you get there....
the heavyist bits like the power adapter are the cheapest bits anyway... | | Tools | Search | | | | | Rate This Thread | | | All times are GMT +8. The time now is 02:45 PM. | Partners |
