Gaming on notebooks are starting to become better now.

As you have already mentioned you wanted something with ATI video card. The best graphics for ATI ive seen so far on a notebook is the Radeon 9700, not sure how much ram but this is usually shared among the system.

On the other hand you have Nvidia Geforce6800go which is faster than the 9700.

For your price range, you would be probably scraping the surface as these systems tend to be over $10,000Hk.
I havent been keeping up-to-date with the notebook prices lately so u might get lucky by shopping around.

My friend recently bought a GenII Dell Notebook and totally loves it. Plays WoW, warcraft3 nicely - he is another Warcraft freak.
The notebook has a geforce 6800go in it and says it kicks his AGP 9800pro, so go figure.

You can check out the GenII notebooks on dells HK website, but compare prices back home aswell.

I remember checking out a notebook earlier this year and there was a Compaq Notebook with an ATI 9700 card.
From memory i think it was B3100AP series.

Anyway, happy shopping im sure u'll find a bargain at Sham Sui Po, if not check out Mong Kok. Also ask for the freebies aswell and if u are going to buy bring cash as u get charged an xtra 3% using Credit Card.

It would be difficult to get a gaming laptop with that spec for that kind of money. Be prepared to pay at least HK$11-13K for such a machine...

why not check out www.dell.com.hk to get an idea?

Xps2 is a us market only if my memories are good. There is a 9300 series similar to XPS2

For gaming, if you want best performance, go on a desktop, if you still try to stick on a notebook with same requirements, higher your budget.

x700 + a decent Pentium M should be a good base for notebook. Then, you need to find the right brand etc...

For a future purchase, I would wait for the new Sonys B series, but still, it will be much more expensive.

IBM T43 http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2285

I persoanlly use the T42 (64MB) to play Age Of Mythology with no problems whatsoever.

Overall its a great laptop. I am a software Developer and use the T42 to play Games, develop software, and general business use. The build is beautiful, solid, and a decent size.

i give it 9/10 withthe only con is the preinstalled software, but im sure its there for my own good

thanks! ok i'll try to save more and get a good one.
dell 9300 is expensive. it would take me about 14,000HKD to get the lastest graphic adapter for it (256MB NVIDA® GeForce™ Go 6800)
i'll probably look for cheaper ones.
cheers!

If you want a precise advice, you should give us your requirements, ie size of the screen and maximum weigth because these two parameters indicates the price of the notebook.
T4x series from IBM is a really good serie but if you don't go on the expensive one or pro model (ie T4xp) the 3D performance drop quite quickly.
Acer represents a really good bargain for their price. But I don't like the shape of it.
HP has some good models like the NC6xxx series. Or if you don't mind the weight, there is a NC8420 I forget the price, should be a little bit too expensive too.

There are still other little good performer, and lately AMD release the Turion which represents quite a good performance/price rate. Compaq has one good detailed at www.tomshardware.com look for the turion article.

have a fun purchase.

thanks badzoo.
these are the specs i'm looking at:
- Pentium Centrino, with Pentium M at least 1.7 Ghz
- Widescreen, if possible, and >= 14"
- Graphics Adapter, im not sure whether to get an ATI X700 or NVIDIA Go6800; must get atleast 128 MB VRAM.
- average battery performance
- weight and size not that important 'cause i won't be travelling with it a lot. but as long as it doesn't look like a brick.
- 40Gig HD
- about 512MB RAM
- Combo Drive or DVD-Writer

i'm think the Asus Z70V looks good, but I don't know if they have it here in HK..

this is the specs.
. ASUS Z70V Refresh Notebook
Specs:
Processor: Intel® Pentium® M Processor 740 (1.73 GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB)
LCD: 15.4" WSXGA TFT Display 1680 x 1050
Video Card: PCI Express ATI X700 128MB

also, Sager 3880, but also, I don't know if they have that here in HK...
the specs:
Processor: Intel® Pentium® M Processor 740 (1.73 GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB)
LCD: 15.4" WXGA Active Matrix LCD
Video Card: NVIDIA GO6600 128MB

i'm planning to spend atmost 11500 HKD, but if i can find something cheaper but with the specs i mentioned, i'll settle for it..=)

do you have any other recommendations?
thanks! cheers!

For the price you are asking, I don't think you can find the exact specs.. hm, as I am not a specialist of desktop replacement..
If you can buy DELL, go on a 9300 and add the 6800. It comes at right 11500HK$..
From Asus, there is no 70 series here yet, you should go on an A6v
there is some nice LG (LS and LW series), but I don't know the price... mmmhh
Yeah, for your price, I think I can't find better product than the Dell one.
There is also X50 from Samsung which is a little bit higher 16.5k
Acer 8100 too, I don't think should be too pricey.
Toshiba M40

As I don't have the price I can't give you a real advice, but still, you have some reference
