man I knew it, I knew everyone who read my post is going to laugh. even I am laughing at my own doing I can almost visualise when I read your post. I almost feel like I am one of those funky eccentic looking ninjas trying to loot during the night in Kyoto, jumping across roofs, performing moves which can be outdone only by Master Chow Yuen Fat (as in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). perhaps I really should try using only the headset, to avoid further embarassment

anyway, as to earplugs, I found them quite uncomfortable to "wear" after a prolonged period of time. also, the fact that I could actually hear my own heartbeat irritates me - as I am very noise-sensitive even if the source originates from myself

interesting. yea, sometimes you hear the blood rushing in the ears and stuff, but it's a minor thing. obviously, i respect your sensitivity, hey, whatever works. but how do you handle daytime problems like construction if at home?

by the way, a new noise erupted here: there's a school nearby and everyday they have that morning march/formation/speech. didn't even notice it was a school until they started the racket.

Hi
I think noise can be very destructive and any slight hiss even can upset people (tinnitus sufferes get depressed)

I wouldnt put up with it. I dont know what rent you are paying or can afford but either way if it doesnt improve then I would plan to move. There are quieter places .

I usually wear the headphones all day along at home and if they start banging on the concrete I will just plug in my mp3 player and crank up the volume to overshadow the construction noises. (actually you don't need to crank up the volume that much)

as to hiss sound: at first I didn't feel comfortable with this hiss sound, but in time I started to accept it. (hiss is more tolerable than noises coming off from computer fans, construction works and vehicles)

Venice- I feel your pain. Sounds like it is worse than a frat house. Try having a few glasses of wine before you go to sleep. That should knock you out...

Cerberus- share some of your funky dreams. I could use a morning laugh.

louiseamanda, where are these quieter places? possibly not in HK? from what i read here, it's a huge chunk of people suffering from harrassment at the hands of lunatics, not a minority.

shaz, did the noise complaint work? every post i read regarding this issue sets my blood a boiling. why did they have to drop stuff in the tub or slam doors in the wee hours? why, for f@#k's sake?! it makes no sense. are they sent to test us or something? is this part of some weird cosmic joke?

the dreams..can't give too much away, but one two nights ago was practically an ENTIRE sci fi flick, in color, with sound, including news reports and plot progression! i kid you not, it was VERY elaborate and felt long, but then they say even the "longest" dream really only takes a couple of seconds. others have been more perverse, but not as detailed. btw i also use the 3M orange plugs, they seal sound off quite effectively but aren't too comfortable, maybe that's why the dreams come.

later and keep up the fight against the evil doers!

Hello

I see you were up early. About where the quiet places are we should run a poll . This would find you suitable blocks/building that are relatively soundproof with 'reasonable' neighbours. Where you work obviously affects your needs.
Also preferably you want to be alongside neighbours who work regular hours who go to bed at normal hours not for example shift workers/insomniacs/those hard of hearing/those with poor taste in films.
What you decribe is unacceptable there is no doubt. We are much out of centre -southside HK island (Chung Hom Kok) it is dead silent at night but lucky to have a house. But if others can report quiet places we can make a list!
Yours sympathetically

sure, i say we seek out these tranquil havens. but probably the quality tenants and soundproofing you speak of comes at a price yours truly can't afford.
