Gluten-free in Hong Kong

I am a celiac, just moved to Hong Kong from the US. A celiac is someone who is allergic to gluten found in wheat, rye,oat and barley. Unfortunately, there is no medication for it yet. The only way to stay ok is to aviod gluten altogether. That means, no bread, cakes, cookies and the likes. My question is, does Hong Kong have any specific hospital or private doctor where I can go for my annual / half yearly check-up? Since the symptoms of such an allergy are very similar to any ordinary disease, I want to go to a doctor who would understand my condition completely.

I would apreciate if anyone has any big or small information about this.

Thanks,
Shweta

No one has replied to my post. Does that mean nobody ever heard of an allergy with gluten? Or, is it just that you do not know any doctor who might have knowledge of the celiac sprue? Either way, its ok. Hopefully I'll find an appropriate doctor eventually. But, if any of your friends have the same allergy, it would be nice to know how they are managing in HK (since almost all preparations have soy sauce in them).

In the small information category: I was at a health food shop the other day that carries many gluten free items. Its located in the Win Way (I think thats the name) building on Wellington just a little up from Starbucks, beside the big Chinese restaurant. On 3rd floor I believe.

Thanks you guys! I have written to these people/stores. tex, I don't know where Wellington street is, but I will definitely find out.

I found quite a few gluten-free food items at Oliver's (at the Prince's Building). It is not cheap, but thats ok. I only need bread, corn tortillas and maybe cookies sometimes.

I was also told that there is a store in Pacific Place that sells gluten-free foods. I am not going to miss bread anymore!

LOVE TO EAT!!

Thanks dl! That is certainly good news for me.
Since you know about Dr. Trodd (that he will have knowledge of gluten-free), do you know anyone with such an allergy?
