No, but I have surfed with them in Croyde. Love it down there, and The Thatch is a great giggle! South Africa was just a road trip were we just set off on our own.... great fun.. just had to watch out for the sharks! BTW - does anyone know if a wetsuit is needed out In Hong Kong? Or is the water pretty warm?

the thatch is great isn't it? have spent many a night in there, then going to the village hall once the pubs shut! on the wetsuit question, you may need a 3mm suit for winter, according to this article (scroll right down to bottom)... http://www.actionasia.com/actionasia...ex.jsp?aid=799

"well, the same goes for golf and tennis attire here in HK" Its the skiiing gear that amuses me. I can understand the surfing clothes as there are plenty of watersports in hong kong. I've taken up a range of said sports as there really isn't that many good surfing days per year

Debra_m_p, if you plan on coming to Japan to get a board shaped you bette be willing to drop a lot of $$$$ the average price for a shortboard over here is about $800USD a longboard will runn you up to $2500US. I'm still looking into people who shape boards over in HK. If you find someone let me know please...I dont feel like ordering resin and glass over the internet.... It's good to see that there are people in HK that surf, maybe one day there should be a get together on the beach when there is a decent swell coming.
