Dude,
Forget about DB already! HK is all about convenience and Mid-Levels is what you want as a newcomer (your housing allowance will cover it).

You'll be able to get something REALLY nice for that. Even 20k will get you something good, then there's an extra 15k a month to live on. Dunno about the tax sorry...

Talking

OK, I think I am going to accept the Offer. Everything looks good.

A logistic issue:

The HR lady said that they can activate everything simultaneously, Sign Offer Letter, Security Clearance, Resignation and 2-weeks notice, visa application, relocation coordination, moving, etc. They want me to be there asap.

My initial reaction is:

Should I be waiting, at the minimum, after all the Security Clearance is done, then sign the Offer Letter, then submit resignation, then take care of visa and moving stuff? This is logical.

So, what is the Security Clearance?
Is this the same as here in US: drug test, credit report, criminal records, what else they are going to check in HK?

Thanks!

Summit, not sure if you've checked out this thread on the same topic: Discovery Bay ?

One priority for me was to bring my own furniture (which wouldn't have fit into those MidLevel apartments which I liked AND could afford - there were plenty of the other type --> e.g. didn't like OR couldn't afford) plus I lived in a very crowded part of Amsterdam before and on week-ends getting out of my flat was a mad rush at times. Thus, moving to a quiet and spacious low-rise in DB didn't sound too bad at the time. There are, of course, disadvantages to living away from the city center and thus, a lot depends on what your priorities are.

...and no, there are no buckets on the 3:30 or 5:00a.m ferries but there are toilets although when the see is rough that may not help much.
