| | | Above the HK Park line IS Mid-Levels whereas that below is really just Central/SOHO pretending to be Mid-Levels. | |

| | Not really any clubs, but give it time and you'll make a lot of friends that live up that way.
Places like Stauntons Bar and the Globe have a fairly local feel - go in there a few times and you'll see a lot of familiar faces. You don't get that out at DB - there aren't any bars to drink at

| | Another reason to choose DB ? If I need to travel a lot for work, DB should be a better place? Close to Airport, easy to get in and out? | |

| | | the area above HK park is still mid-levels - kennedy road/macdonnell road/bowen road. it is nicer/greener than the other side of the mid levels (robinson rd, etc) but you would either walk or take a taxi to work rather than the escalator. if you live in mid levels you can still go to pure gym or any of the others in central.
if you want a community type feeling, then happy valley is probably a good choice. not as convenient as mid levels but not too far. no MTR but can tram (slow) or cab.
hk is not really a beachy place. you could spend weekends hiking in the new territories and there are some nice beaches further out but as a newcomer i'm sure you'll get into the LKF scene whether you plan to or not!

| | | Not really, DB to Airport is close on the map but I don't think the connections are so good.
Mid-Levels to Central is 10 mins on the escalator or the same in a cab. Add 25 mins for Central to Airport on the Airport Express and you're done... its almost too easy.
Friends of mine often do time trials off the plane - - in the door at home in Mid Levels. Record is currently 45 mins (my personal best is one hour, but I'm a slow walker).

| | | I work in Central and looked at DB and mid-levels. I chose DB. It takes me a bit longer to get to the office and back, but it's worth it for the clean air, serenity, and the politeness of the people is such a refreshing change from most other places in HK. Once you get here, you will know what I am talking about.
Mostly, I chose DB for the cleanliness. There are no private motor vehicles allowed so the air is better. I have a small son so that was important to me.
For transport, the ferry takes 25 mins to Central (opposite IFC Mall) and there is a direct airport bus that takes abt 20 mins.
For activities, it's kind of quiet, but if your flat faces Disneyland, you'll see fireworks every night!

| | | there is a direct bus to the airport it departs every 30 minutes and takes about 25 minutes to get there....it costs $28 one way... alternatively, if you have the time and not too much luggage, you can bus to tung chung(takes 20 minutes~depending on where in DB you live) then change to the S1 bus from tung chung to the airport(takes about 20 minutes... total cost for that is $11.5 one way | |

| | Thanks, guys!
Now the pic is getting clear, looks like 2 possible choices:
1. DB
or
2. Happy valley
"Bubs at Home", Q for you ---
You are saying "if you want a community type feeling, then happy valley is probably a good choice. not as convenient as mid levels but not too far. no MTR but can tram (slow) or cab."
So, how far is Happy Valley to Central, by taxi?
I thought it's close to Admiralty MTR?
I don't think I can walk, especially in the humid hot summer in HK.
Any good gym around Happy Valley area?
What about shopping (more convenience/simple grocery)/restaurants?
Getting in and out of airport?
I will check web site for more about Happy Valley area today.

| | | mid levels if you can afford a clean and nice place. discbay is just too hasslesome, that ferry twice a day at least and all. no offense to those living there. | | Tools | Search | | | | | Rate This Thread | | | All times are GMT +8. The time now is 01:47 AM. | |
