| | Info needed about pet Dog Hi all,
Just arrived in Hong Kong (been here for a week) and have been busy with the usual settling in stuff. I'm currently allocated an apartment at South Horizons and everything is fine. Except this one big problem I've been trying to solve for the past few months regarding my dog.
I've been informed that South Horizons does not allow dogs in their premises and have double checked by reading their "Rules & Regulations". Hence my issue, as both my wife and I are heart broken that our dog has to be left back home in Singapore while we took up the job in Hong Kong. We have been trying to find ways and means to house our dog with friends back home while trying to find a shelter that will take him (as we're only staying put for 2 years). Now the thing is... I've seen people walking their dogs around South Horizons which really puzzles me as to the reliability of what I've been told. Are dogs allowed in South Horizons? Or are these people taking risks by owning dogs? Is there something I'm missing out on? Please... anyone out here knows how this is done, please let me know. Our dog is a mini schnauzer so size is not an issue and one of the dogs I've seen around here is one too.
Frustrated & Confused,

| | | They might allow dogs that can be carried while in public areas like the elevator / lobby.
Have someone who speaks cantonese in your office call the management -- they might give you a different story, simply because they cant be bothered to explain the details to you.
Also, these dogs could belong to people in the nearby housing estate....

| | | Thanks for the reply KnowItAll. I think there is a possibility that the dog owners could be staying in a nearby housing estate though one I saw distinctively moved towards the condo area. Anyways, think I'll observe more or hopefully ask one of them about the possibility of bringing my dog to SH. ^^

| | | Most pet shops in Hong Kong sells bags for carrying a dog. They come with air holes so your pooch can breath and comes with straps for carrying over your shoulder or wheels so u can drag it around. These bags comes in all sorts of hideous designs.
I was initially disgusted with HK people for carrying their dogs in a bag as it defeats the object of taking them out for a walk.
But I now realise people buy these bags so they can stuff their dogs in a bag to carry them home without getting any grief from the management of the apartments they live in.
Provided your dog is fairly small, this is a way to get around the problem.

| | | well i know many places like govt housing which does not allow dogs and they are very strict about this. but in understand south horizons is a private premise so i do not know why dogs are not allowed. Even in govt houses, ppl still own dogs by taking risk as long as dogs are not disturbing others, i guess. and when they take them out to public places they will put them in a bag (like in elevators) til they get onto the street. i am also a dog lovers with 7 dogs but i live in a house in NT so i understand how u feel and hope u & your dog could meet up very soon ........... | |

| | | I hope you get your problem sorted out, BD.
Please be aware of one issue which we have in HK, and which I don't know if you have in SP - Heartworm.
Dogs get it and it involves a slow death (the name syas it all). You can either give your pooch Heartguard every month, or get the vet to give it an annual injection, but your dog must have one or the other.

Yeh will probably ask them the next time I see them around.

Will probably go check out the dog carriers. Any idea if there are pet shops around Aberdeen?
enzo:
We have actually thought of moving over to NT and are keeping the option open just in case we get evicted for possessing a dog in SH . Could you advise me on the average rental costs in NT for a 2 room apartment? Coz we're highly likely to just bring him over and hope for the best. But just in case, we'd like to have our contingency plans worked out. LOL!
Moriarty:
No worries there. He takes heartguard every month. Are the vets here in hk any good?

| | | Well I live in a house in NT in a private development (not village houses). Village houses are much cheaper, for a 700sf house with a small garden/roof (thats if you rent g/f and 2/f = total 3 floors + roof), it will cost you from 5,000 to 10,000 depending on location. The place I live in is a private development with over 1,000 individual houses, size ranging from 1300sf to 2,800 sf and rental starts from 12,000 to 25,000. Its great environment here, everyone has at least one dog. The vet van comes around every Tuesday from 10-8pm so it's handy, dont need to take dogs out for vaccinations. There is also clubhouse, shuttle bus etc.,
For apartment, it will start around 5,000 to 15,000 depending on size and location. Let me know if you need more info.

| | No idea where the pet shops are in Aberdeen. Check out Yellow Pages, there are over 300 listings: http://www.yp.com.hk/iypconsumer_e05...h/company.aspx
There are quite a few behind Sogo in Causeway Bay. | | Tools | Search | | | | | Rate This Thread | | | All times are GMT +8. The time now is 04:25 PM.
