Job en Visa information Hello, I am new here on this site, but from what i have been reading there's a lot of knowledge on this site. So maybe you have some answers for me. I'll be moving to HK in october/november. Moving there to live with my chinese girlfriend. I'm holding a Dutch passport and trained as a Intensive Care nurse. Does anyone have experience / tips for me what sort of visa i should aquire (planning to look for a job in HK), and how the job market is for health care professionals ? Thanks for youre efforts, Matt

When you say "chinese girlfriend" is she a local HK citizen? But in any case, if you are not married and do not have a job offer then you can only come here as a tourist. You would be granted a 3 month tourist visa on arrival. You can extend that a few times by going briefly to Macau or the mainland. If & when you have a job offer then you can apply for an Employment Visa. Although all medical professionals here speak English, I'm not at all sure that they would take a non-Cantonese-speaker into and IC unit since in times of stress I suspect the staff revert to Cantonese...

Thanks for the already given answers PDLM. My girlfriend indeed is local HK citizen. Do these visa requirments count for all European country's or does it differ per country. (As i am dutch). As for the non-Cantonees-speaking "problem" ICU-settings are mostly not that hectic as one might believe, but i am open to a lot of jobs (inside Health care - or outside). Any suggestions on how to start job hunting ? Thanks

All except permanent residents of HK need an employment visa to work, and they need to have a job offer before they can apply for that visa. All EU passports get 3 months tourist visa on arrival, except UK which gets 6 months. Other European countries vary. Apologies for confusing ICU with A&E. The Hong Kong Medical Association site here http://www.hkma.org/eindex.htm seems to have a good selection of links which might lead you to some opportunities.
