Wanting to live and work in HK

Hi all, I am a financial analyst, have about 3.5 years of financial and banking experience and working towards my U.S. CMA designation..
Is there a possibility that I can get a job in HK?
Is this a do-able thing??
I was in HK last summer and spent 3 weeks there searching for work but I ended up sending out resumes at the local Pacific Coffee in TST without ever hearing any response from any of the positions. I was however offered some teaching jobs but I really would prefer working within my experiences and credentials...
Can anyone help?
Does anyone know of any good headhunters or agencies that can seriously get you work?

JAson

cerberus is an unknown quantity at this point.
alas, teaching remains a good pool of employment overall, market needs etc. but don't give up on your dreams, even if it means sending out tons more resumes in vain. don't know of any headhunters to be honest.

hi! i'm in a similar boat as you are, jason. 4 years in the financial/investment industry and am currently researching job opportunities in hk. my friend recently got a job in a big investment firm and is going back in 2 weeks. when asked about how he landed this job, he said that half a year ago, before going to hk for vacation, he forwarded his resume to a few head hunters agencies and called them advising them he was going to be back. they arranged a few meetings between him and some firms. low and behold he got a call a month ago from one of the firms saying they want him and will fly him in for the position. i think that will be my tactic as well. so far, i've heard that hudsons and michael page are two of the decent ones. good luck on your search and let me know if there is a better route to go!

Most of the people that work in banking / finance here have been relocated with their respective companies. I really don't know how you'd go finding work with them over here, but if you've got experience and qualifications, its certainly worth a try.

Well said Indecisive, I am heading back to HK in October for a few weeks and I have contacted Michael Page allready for an interview. I would agree that Michael Page is one of the more established head hunters and they have quite a number of finance positions listed on their website. I havent tried Hudson yet. You should also try Gemini for another alternative.
Good luck and see you there!!

Guys, the investment banks are partying like its 1997. If you're looking for good money and don't have an issue with the last in first out scheme of things at the banks, you'll find yourself a job here. Not an issue @ all.

(Hey ... did anyone hear about a looming currency crisis in Indonesia ... where have I heard about that one before?)

Thanks Know it all, so your saying that the investment banks are a good place to be...great advice!
I will have to get more acquainted with the CFA designation then as it is geared towards more of an investment analyst field more than the CMA that I am currently working on.
Even still....you are giving me the hope that I was looking for in my greater pursuit in landing a job in HK.. thanks again!!

I've had a look through a few of the threads and it seems that work in the finance sector is the way to go, unlucky for me I don't work in that field. I was wondering if anyone knew what it was like to try and get work in Human Resources, I'm degree qualified and have about 4years experience.

I'm looking too but and unfortunately not in finance either but recruitment jobs seem plentiful given the number of vacancies that get sent to me daily by jobsdb.com that are in that field but not suited to me. I am more into tv and marketing of English language based global brands if anyone has any contacts they could pass on.
