| | | Live Music and Concerts in Hong Kong I've moved to Hong Kong temporarily and I'm looking for places to see live bands, specifically local (preferably English) music -- not cover bands.
I'm also curious about the state of the music scene in terms of getting international acts. Why don't they ever come here?
Any help is much appreciate.
Thanks, Andrea | |

You're right - there's not a lot of international action here. The best I've done was REM the Sunday of the Sevens (what a cool day: Sevens then REM). The place was only half full, and even though the front wasn't that packed, they still wouldn't let people move forward.
Linkin Park played out at HiTec a while back. I only found after it after it happened - dammit!
In any case keep an eye on the Hkclubbing site, the forums there normally list whatevers coming up.

| | The best place to look at is http://www.hkticketing.com/eng/
Bands/Solo artists do come to HK/Asia Tour etc. I have been here in HK for nearly 2 years and so far Rolling Stones, Sting, Kylie (although she cancelled), REM, Norah Jones (I think). Not too bad I think!

| | "insomnia" in lankwaifong and "dusk till dawn" in wanchai do cover songs...crowd is a bit tacky and rowdy though...prolly better for men with all the eye-candys and the rough up/brush up.. | |

| | | I saw REM here and they rocked! I'm off tonight to see 'The Tears' which i'm very excited about, being a huge Suede fan. Most acts seem to go via singapore rather than HK, but it is getting better. | |

| | | Agreed, Singapore (and Shanghai and even Shenzhen these days) steal a lot of HK acts. Main reason is the lack of venues in HK...
I'm a huge fan of going to see DJ's too and thats just the same, most of them give HK a miss and play somewhere else instead.
REM were awesome. One of those bands that really blows you away live. $880 was pretty steep at the time, but money well spent looking back.

| | | Thanks for everyone's input so far.
I guess I was spoiled coming from Toronto, Canada where on any given week, I would go see two or three shows. In Toronto, there's a really strong local indie music scene.
Is there music of an indie scene here?
