| Thanks for all the responses everyone. You all just confirmed my worst fears. Now, what do you think the reason is, aside from a lack of venues. |

You dont have to wait much longer guys. The new venue is under constuction right now. AsiaWorld-Arena will be Hong Kong's largest indoor seated venue, with a maximum seating capacity of 13500 and it will also have state of the art acoustics. There will be a train station at this venue, taking 1 minute from the airport and I believe the venue is due for completion early next year. I have heard that they are in talks with many well known british bands and solo artists so think it will be worth waiting for. they have a website although acts for the arena arent listed yet - www.asiaworld-expo.com - if you go the the facilities section, you can find out more about the arena. |

| what about the avant garde / experimental / or just unabashedly original (but GOOD) musicians? or are people too closed minded for that? doesn't HK have their own (or close to it) john cage / laurie anderson / brian eno / toru takemitsu or even a tom waits? or are we all stuck with lousy cover bands and misfit indie groups yelling their heads off to try to pass as creative? no sarcasm intended - i really wanna know... | For experimental music you can get in touch with Nelson Hui, Pete Scherr etc. Be careful though, they're considerably more out there than the old squares like Eno, Cage and Anderson that you mentioned in your post. Don't worry, I'm sure they'll be gentle with you and introduce to the experimental music of this century. Welcome to Hong Kong No sarcasm intended - i just really wanted to let you know... |

| For those of you interested in the indie scene you might want to go along to one of the HKLive gigs to get a taster. http://amp.channelv.com/amp/hklive/home.html Saw Innisfallen there back in August for example and they're definitely worth seeing IMHO. http://www.innisfallen.net/index.htm |
