Good Mechanic for MOT? Anyone have any TRUSTWORTHY mechanic who performs the MOT process for you? I suppose the procedure is you drop it off with them, they arrange all for you, call you with a quote, and you get the car back in x days? How long does it normally take? I live close to Clearwater Bay, would love to hear of mechanics in Hang Hau / Sai Kung if possible. Thanks!

Check out with "Tommy", Vins Motors located in Tin Hau...phone: 90953951 He owns that Garage and is very proficient in English. If I remember correctly, last time he charged me $1000 inclusive of MOT (government fees) + exhaust cleaning + water wash + etc...etc...very reasonable price... Either you can leave the Car on the way to your office and pick it up later in the evening. Or Fix up a time, so he will send someone to pick it up (charges extra)...Give it a try...

| Sai Kung mechanic We've used a very reliable firm close to the Ma On Shan/Sai Kung Country Park roundabout, north of Sai Kung for 2 years now and they were recommended by previous owners of our house who used them for over 10 yrs. They will come into the park to pick up vehicle so may go as far as Clearwater Bay. Excellent service and much cheaper than Sun On Motors (right in Sai Kung) that we previously used. Ownership has just changed to the previous head mechanic (whose name I have forgotten - sorry) - very personable and speaks good English. M& E Motor Engineering Co. Ltd. | Really appreciate the advice everyone. I went with shri's first suggestion of Fookie motors because they agreed to pick it up immediately, they picked up, fixed and dropped off all within about a day! I was quite impressed. Total cost for me was $4000, which was fine since it needed new brake pads / tire / oil change, a few other bits and pieces. It looked to me an honest assesment. Hopefully the info from shri and others will help others in the region as well. |

Mot You can take the car to the MOT place yourself you know...it takes about 1/2 an hour if you go in non peak times and costs about $600. They used to be open 24 hours, but now I think they open at 7am and close at midnight - pleny of time to get it done yourself. They are in Kowloon Bay. Another good mechanic which we have used is Tim Ho - just down the road from Sai Kung, near the lap sup bins and big bus stop toward the Chuk Yeung Rd.

Where in Kowloon Bay is the MOT place? What is the deal here with an MOT? Do you have to do it every year before you re-register? I am taking on a car which has run out of registration/insurance etc and wonder if anyone knows the process I need to go through to get it done. Do I need to get an insurance cover note, then transfer registration, then do an MOT? Sounds wrong as i presumably can't register without an MOT but can't get the car to an MOT spot without the car being registered!
