| | | Transfer from Domestic Helper Visa Possible? need help pls
got a bf in hk (whose a hk resident). he has this idea in order for us to stay together in hk is for me to be sponsored by his friend as their domestic helper. that way i can have a visa to stay in hk. but that domestic thing is only in principle since im not going to live as one, only an entry way to hk.then we will be together in hk. i hope u guys got it.
question is, i have research on this domestic helper visa thing, and they usually lasted for about 2 years, during that time i know that i cant apply for employment because of my status. i do really want to have a decent job in hk (im currently taking up my masters in my home country). is there any chance for me to obtain or should i say at least transfer my visa into a sort of employment/work visa while on that kind of domestic helper visa? or would there be by any chance be given an employment visa? is there any one you know who has gotten into this kind set-up? im really confused about this thing. of course i know with that kind of visa i cant even apply for employment or for residency in the future. pls help me on this. i do really love to be with my bf, that even with that kind of set-up, im very much willing to do so, only i guess if theres some future benefit in it.
i hope u guys can enlighten me on this matter
thanks | |

| | Test his love for you and get married.
Yes, you can switch jobs but it is next to impossible (and perhaps even improbable on a DH visa) -- you would most probably have to move to a dependant visa first.

| | | thanks for the suggestion but ohh pls... i wouldnt want to enter on that marriage thing first. its complicated. i just hope we could spend more time together and marriage will come just in time. now, its more on finding ways to be together.
so u mean i can get a work (not as a domestic helper) even on a dh visa? so, theres still chance to obtain job and transfer the status of my dh visa? how will that be possible?

| | | Remember also that time spent here on a DH visa doesn't count towards the 7 years needed to get to Permanent Residence.
And Immigration tends to look very hard at DH applications that don't come from the normal countries (Phils, Thai, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Nepal), so unless you are from one of those your chances of the DH may not be high.

Sorry, you cannot do outside work on a DH visa. And your chances of transfering that to an employment visa will be VERY slim.

| | | thanks. ok. i got it.
lets say provided i conform with that dh visa just to stay with my bf.. and if we finally decided to got married, will that means i can apply for a dependant visa even when im still on a dh visa?
can u please give me scenario or advise on how to at least upgrade my dh visa/status when im in hk? my bf says the dh visa is sort of the easiest way for him to get me there in hk. he says if im already there, its much easier to process thing, lets say to look for a job. im a bit confused though.... i know it will entail more sacrifices on my part thats why i need to think bout that.. i dont know how will it be beneficial for me to be on that status in foreign land. hope u understand. i just want to find a decent job there, be with my bf and life will at least be complete, he says the dh visa thing is just the entry plan for me to be with him. any advise will be appreciated. thanks

| | | ok PLDM, I suppose you mean third world countries for "normal"... (geez!)
some people I know have done this. technically speaking, it's illegal, but it's possible. your chances of landing a decent job? not high. employers wouldn't want to risk hiring a person w/o a working permit. you can do pt jobs though, where you wouldn't be exposed. then u can work on the residency question later...

of course it's not an encouragement or anything ok?
just the facts. i have a friend who used to be a dh, married a resident and now living and working in HK for years. yes, if u marry a resident, you can apply for a dependent visa. stay for 7 years and the immig dept can grant your permanenent residency by then.

u guys are really helpful
do u think guys the dh visa is the most easiest way to get in to hk? since i'am a thai, that i guess is possible.. but are there no other way. were really getting impatient as to find ways on how i can get to hk. he cant leave his job in hk, so im the one who would sacrificed then. any other possible way aside from dh visa? thanks | | Tools | Search | | | | | Rate This Thread | | | All times are GMT +8.
