Teaching Mandarin Location

I am a native Mandarin speaker, recently relocated to HK. I would like to teach Mandarin from my apartment in Shouson Hill. Where do most of the expats live? Is this a less convenient location for most of them? (limited public transportation)

What are the typical rates for private, or group lessons? Adults vs. children?

Thank you for any information.

I've seen rates from $100-150/hour from students up to $400/hour from professionals.

I am assuming that the rates you can charge would depend on the quality and structure of your courses.

Send a PM to petrm or see if he responds here .. he runs what appears to be a competant Mandarin school.

$150 is what I am going to charge then...teaching Madarin not for the money but for the fun of teaching.

KnowItAll, do you think the location in Shouson Hill is going to be an issue? There is only one mini bus line that goes from my building to the ferry, otherwise one must drive or take a taxi..

Actually, established companies with office space charge corporate clients as much as $880 per lesson, and as much as $1,600 per lesson (90-minute lesson).

(I prefer to remain silent about my own Mandarin school, as I do not want to spam, but anyone is welcome to send me a message.)

There are plenty of Mandarin teachers out ther who charge in the $150 neighborhood. Teaching kids is not as good, as most parents are not willing to pay even $100.

Advice for those who want to learn: The best is to hire a native (China-born) teacher, and even then you need to watch out as not everyone has standard pronunciation, patience, friendly attitude, etc.

Best wishes!

newyork, back to your original question, yes it would be an issue for the location.
If you really want to teach from your place, maybe you just try to look for people in Shouson Hill. I don't think most of the working people would go to Shouson Hill for Mandarin classes.
