Homeless and clueless!(and moving next week) Hi, I'm moving to HK next week. I am looking for a furnished apartment for one person, with a modest budget of 5000-7000HK. I'd like to be no more than 45 minutes from Central, not too rural and within walking distance from shops and facilities. I'm considering Yung Shue Wan or Discovery Bay, or the south side of HK. Where do I start? What can I afford? Thanks.

I would also look at the Hong Kong Gold Coast and surrounding area - it's a really nice place to live, and only about 35-40 mins in to Central on the 962 bus (HK$18.20 each way). The Gold Coast shopping centre has 6 or so restaurants each with large outdoor terraces overlooking the Marina - it has a very Mediterranean feel to it.

45 Minutes into Central -- Look at Lamma / Cheung Chau / Discovery Bay.

DB is a nice place to live - especially for families - but after a year or so of living there found we were fed up with being ruled by the ferry timetable.

You can first stay in a furnished apartment in the city (I know one) for a month or so. That way, when you're pretty much familiar with HK, you can make a bigger decision where to move for a longer stay.

Hi, and welcome to HK (almost!). Discovery Bay sounds like what you're looking for. Southside of HK Island is very expensive. Otherwise places like Tseung Kwan O, Sai Kung or Sha Tin could be for you... have a look around when you get here and you'll find the area thats right for you...
