Smile Coming in Sept! Some annnoying Q's

Hi there,
Well… finally we know we are coming to HK in September. Well, actually my husband is coming first and I will wrap up all our loose ends in Sydney. Daunting task, but I can't wait to get started! Dying to get over there....

I feel like I know people through this forum, I have been reading it for so long... it’s quite strange, so I am looking forward to meeting you when we arrive!

I have a few questions I would love to have answered if you have time:

1) Do people generally bring electrical goods with them? Eg CD player, speakers, DVD player, TV, computer?
2) Has anyone lived in Residence Bel Air near Cyberport? Is it REALLY that painful to get from there to Central?
3) Are the waiting lists really really long for serviced apartments around Mid-levels?
4) Is there anywhere I could go rollerblading in Hong Kong (crazy question I know but wanted to know if I should bring the blades along for the ride..…)

Thanks for your patience.

See you soon!! Aghhh!! Still have to quit my job here.....etc etc etc.
H

Hi

I bought a few electrical things from NZ but have generally found it to be a bit of a pain - quite convenient at first having the things you want but then the whole plug thing is quite annoying - I would reccommend you bring a couple of adapter plugs and a couple of multi plugs ie: plug all your things into a set of 4 plugs and then plug that into the wall using an adapter - not sure about the viability of this electrically but it has worked for me.

Last weekend we went along Bowen Road - 4kms of flat road with virtually no cars- the only place I have seen so far that rollerblading would be an option. HK Island is very steep with heaps of stairs.

We secured a serviced apartment at Hanlun Habitats in mid-levels that was really nice but they were pretty booked up. Check out moveandstay.com as a starting point.

Good luck

lara

Can be painful for us who work in Cyberport. I've heard there is an express shuttle for residents, but not sure what the timings are.

I would think that it is possible to rollerblade at Victoria Park - although there are always loads of people. Or maybe Shatin Park - the New Territories are less busy (with people) and even have cycle lanes.
But remember that it gets hot here + rainy season etc so that may leave you to 5 months of rollerblading potential.

Why is it that the girl/wife is always left behind to tidy up the loose ends! I was in a similar position but its all very worth it. Looking forward to meeting up in September!

cerberus is an unknown quantity at this point.
the only annoyance is knowing other people can afford serviced housing.
