Moving and Job Search in HK

Hi, I'm new to this site and was amaze how many expats are in HK. I know that these questions has been ask many times but I have to ask them again. I'm from NYC, U.S. citizen and I've been to HK twice and decided that I want to move there. I plan to make this trip in Oct but have some questions that maybe you guys can help me out with.

How long can I stay in HK as a visitor with a US passport before I need to go back? I have my college degree in Finance, with 5+ years in banking, plus I speak, read, and write in Cantonese and Mandarin fluently aside from English. Will it be easy for me to find a job in HK? I've heard that obtaining a H1-B employment visa is hard, since HK government wants to companies to hire their citizens before hiring expats? My friends in HK has sent me a list of recruiters in HK but I have not heard a reply from them, they said it is easier if you were physically in HK if you were to job search, it that true? I've been looking into multinational company here to see if any of there operations in HK are hiring but haven't had much luck in that also, is there a better way to approach this?

I'm sorry for these questions, but visiting and actually leaving there is a total different experience. I want to make sure I'm prepare before I go there.

Thanks,

NYCHK

cerberus is an unknown quantity at this point.
it's true from my experience that they won't even call back unless they see a local number. but with your skills and background once you're here it should be a breeze i think.

NYCHK, if you have an Investment Banking background with experience gained in Wall Street AND you speak Putonghua and Cantonese, then you should have no problem. (I'm a Financial market Headhunter so know a little about this *grin*)

Your best bet is to make a 2-3 week trip here first to attend interviews, land a job and then go back to NY to wrap up there.

HK is an expensive place to be with no job, so that's your best route.

Thanks Moriaty, yeah I read a lot of the forum on this site and I will most likely will take this route. Earliest I can come is in October, since I'm determine to head there I have to make sure things are taken care of here in NYC. I do have some Wall Street experience but not in investing banking. Hopefully, I can do well there. Now, should I contact the recruiters in advance from NY or should I try to set a an appt once I get there. Because I'm not sure 2-3 weeks is sufficient.
