I know of one good Pho place in HK Hey guys, I just recently moved here from Toronto, Canada. I am Chinese and the Viet food from T.O. was amazing. I too was craving for some authentic Pho places in HK, however, i have found one good place here but i forgot the name. It's in Causeway Bay on Cannon St.............that place is very good, it's very close to what i am accustomed to in Canada. Steve

Justdoit: Depend on what you make, you can find some similar ingredient here. Eg. to make nem we can find banh trang, bean sprout, woodear (moc nhi), carot, lettuce, and dry noodle... If you want recipe of anything, just post request here, I will try my best Minack: I don't know that Pho Sai Gon place. Can u give their address? I have tried many other Vietnamese restaurants and the lesson withdrawn is "when we r in HK, just do what HK ppl do" hhehehe... Ten to la Trang. Rat vui duoc lam quen

hi guys There is a good Viet restaurant in Electric Road in Tin Hau. Forgot about their name but there is only one Viet restaurant near the bridge / the wet market. It is open by a Vietnamese family. CK123, do you make dessert too? There is a common dessert mix with sticky rice and white bean, serve with melt coconut sauce on top...how do you call that? Another one is cold dessert, it looks like green jelly with frozen white coconut sauce on top. I think Vietnamese style French bread is one of the best. Is the meat inside difficult to make? I miss so much the Vietnamese food in Toronto... and my Vietnamese friends there.

The Pho Saigon is in Wanchai, on Henessy road. If you know where Genki sushi is, it's the next block. Another Pho Saigon is in the building next to Sogo, on the 7th floor. Ohlala, I believe those desserts are fusion type. We do have similar but with different toppings. We call that "xo^i che`" or just "xoi" You are right, bread in Vietnam is the best...you can't find anywhere else. At Pho Saigon they make breads themselves...not bad...should try. You miss Vietnamese frens in Toronto? Well, you have some here in Hong Kong Trang, rat vui duoc biet Trang. Mong 1 ngay nao do se gap va di choi nhe. Trang o Hk bao lau roi? Uyen

Hi fellow Viet Kieu Good to see there are other Viets out there. I'm represent the Sydney diaspora. Agree. Agree. Good Vietnamese food is hard to come by in HK - in one way surprising since there were tens of thousands off us here not that long ago in the camps. But most have long since gone now. I've always liked Nha Trang on Wellington St. Soho - not 100% authentic but good quality nonetheless - its a good place to take non-viet friends. Another one I've found is Cafe Hue just off Kings Rd near North Point MTR, but not the highest quality. AS for ingredients I had a real hard time trying to find banh trang recently and ended up buying from the Vietnamese lady owner of Cafe Hue above. I know they sell it one of the shops in the soho wetmarkets but I wasn't going to travel all the way to central (i live in north point) just for one ingredient. Does anyone know where to get pho noodles from? I've also tried to find banh cuon - they have it in Chinese food and I get it from Wellcome however they are all rolled up and I have to painstkingly unroll them. Anyways, happy to hear any other food tips if u got em. Cheers

So cool to know that we have a community here in this place. Sometimes I do feel like Robinson Crusoe... hahaha Ohlala: Sorry, I do not know much about desert, because as a "real" VNese, we eat rice at home and go out for desert Uyen: Pls check your msg Giorgedn: I guess u come from Da Nang? Banh trang is sold in City Super, not so expensive and made in Thailand. Pho is sold in wet market, look for noodle shop and ask for "ho fan". Banh cuon: you have to make it your own i guess as HK cheung fan is not similar to banh cuon VN. Everyone, I found cu xa, nghe, rieng, rau kinh gioi, rau hung in City Super today, not so fresh though.

I've watched this thread with interest, though I'm not Vietnamese (my wife is!) and I do have a love for 'real' VN food. Agree that it's almost impossible to find decent - authentic? - VN food here in HK. However, my wife cooks many dishes at home, and has found many Vietnamese-style herbs and vegetables in the Thai markets / foodshops, including ngo gai, rau hung and rau hung que (please forgive my Vietnamese, guys). Much cheaper than Citysuper. The best selection of Thai shops is in Kowloon City (I think Southwall Rd or Lung Kwong Rd), though there are three decent shops on Stone Nullah Lane in Wan chai market (the third one - about 100 m along - has an excellent Thai restaurant in the back of the shop, complete with VN-style plastic stools!). Hope that helps your culinary satisfaction...

Woh guys. This is amazing. I'm glad I posted this thread. Just wondering why it takes almost a year later for all these wonderful responses from you guys. Giorgedn: just to follow up with ck123, you should say "yuht nam ho fan" as they have 2 types...if you mention vietnamese ho fan, it will be a smaller one. Closer to our banh pho If you want to get banh trang, I can buy for you sometimes. But I have to charge you tenfold. Smile. I go to Vietnam almost every month. I should set up a shop here to sell all the ingredients huh...hehe. I realized people do not mention about "com bi". That's my favourite and I couldn't find anything here that is close. You know my mom sometimes have to send it over to HK from Vietnam for me... Any of you like "com bi"? Good chatting to all of you. Lets keep this going ok. Nice weekend people
