Living on Lamma ?

I am planning to relocate to HK in the near future and have heard that the gossip amongst future colleagues includes the high betting that I will choose to live on Lamma Island. From my limited explorations, I was rather thinking to live close to work (Central) so that I could stay out later and walk home at nights. Maybe that would be a mistake ?.... Midnight last boats ?.... Am I missing something here ?

Any advice welcome.

Lamma Island - beach, peace and quiet, good food. Cons - very long commute. Personally speaking I would rather have a short commute and then visit Lamma at the weekends. I walk home at nights (not in the summer) much better than feeling dodgy on a boat. But as I said, that's my personal opinion.

Long commute? It's only 20 minutes to central, with the fast morning ferry! Lamma is a good place though. Unless you want to party into the late hours, since the last boat leaves at 0.30.

Ummm... do you sit around in a bar and drink all day and smoke weed?

(That was an obligatory Lamma stereotype windup)

There is a new ferry timetable with the last ferry leaving Central at 2 or 2.30am. Failing that you can get sampans from Aberdeen which are always a good way to end a nights carousing!
I live on Lamma and work in Wanchai- the ferry is just over 20 mins and I walk from there to Wanchai, alternatively the MTR, trams and taxis are all easy to get from the ferry terminal.
I've lived there for 3 years now and wouldn't consider Central as I am not going to give 20k of my salary to a landlord for a flat which I can get on Lamma for a 3rd of that.
