Freelance work offered but have no visa?

Hi,

I've recently been offered some contract work by a company who say they won't sponsor me but would be happy to write a letter saying they need my services - for me to use to apply for a work visa.

Is this enough to apply for a work visa with? And if so would it only be for the duration of this specific project and only for them?

I have had another two companies ask to meet me next week with regards to freelance work they want me to do - again they wont sponsor but they may provide a letter as well - it's looking good but I have not met them yet.

Any advice would be appreciated. How can I turn the interest into a work visa? I want to stay in HK permanantly and legally.

Thanks

Sorry to bear bad news - No.

Depends on the sector I guess. More information needed to provide a meaningful response.

I've been asked to do some usability testing and work on accessibility. My background is in web design. More recently in the UK I've been a consultant.

Perhaps you can try getting your own work visa. know quite a few people who have set up their own companies and along with the offfer letters were able to secure a visa.

I was hoping that I could apply for my own work visa with a business plan and three latters from comapnies...however today i spoke to a company who help people with visa's - they were recommended on another thread - they seemed to think this was not a possible option.

In case you know, did your friends follow the same idea of supplying letters with a business plan and the relevant forms?

Betty,

I recently met 2 women that have applied for visas by setting up their own companies. Yes, you do need to submit a business plan with offer letters. Will PM you their contacts if you'd like to speak to them.

betty boo i hope it works out for you. would be great if you would post the outcome here, think there are a lot of people interested. (or atleast i am!)

ok another similar question. if you're on a dependent's visa and you would like to freelance, how can you do so legally? i know in singapore it was most commonly done illegally in my profession (advertising/design)with no problems. is this the case here?

tex,
IMO, two options...
(1) Get the permission from Immd to work..
(2) Open your own company and be a service provider..
