Cantonese movies

I loved Kung Fu Hustle ; Shaolin Soccer was not bad either .

These are the only two Cantonese movies I have seen - but I am keen on seeing more. Anything that your particularly recommend? both old and new, available on DVD, in the store or for rent...

All time greats in my book.... (not all of them are comic .. but they are some of the best movies around.)

John Woo and / or Chow Yun Fat ... in combination or individually they've produced some of the best action flicks in town.

A better tommorrow:

for action/detective/triad movies, some of Johnnie To's films not bad i think. Not that commercial and often considered as truly reflecting his beliefs and style. Recommend:

The Mission

PTU

Breaking News

For Ringo Lam, "Victim" is not bad either.

If you look 4 something a bit alternative, can have a look at Fruit Chan's movies.

I agree with the Internal Affairs, it's getting remake big time with American stars. But don't forget fun and art house type films like CHungking express

If you like Stephen Chow, definitely God of Cookery -- the movie where my boyfriend fell in love with Karen Mok (god knows why).

It's such a shame that all the films listed are old ones, but truthfully HK cinema seems to be stagnating, producing fluff that stars the latest wannabee popstars. Whatever you do avoid all films that are directed by Wong Jing.
I've only seen one good film of his, and it's a really old one starring Stephen Chow (I think you'd like this one since you like stephen chow movies) the ultimate trickster
