need your help! forgive my ignorance of proper terminology as i phrase my questions. i want to get a portable playstation as a gift for my husband.

now i understand that in standard (non portable) models one can have it modified to accept games that are less than official (cheaper). does this option apply to the portable jobs too?

and supposing i want everything on the up n up, no hassles, where should i go to buy the portable playstation and games? are prices standardized or is there a chance that one dealer has a better offer than another?

Are you from the States? (Guessing from your name "tex"). If so, I believe that the PSP is actually cheaper over there. I could be wrong though, but generally speaking, Hong Kong does not provide cheap (imported) electronics.

Hi Tex,

The Playstation Portable can not be modified to play copied games like the PS2, and the "less than official" games don't exist for the PSP for the moment, but sure it will happen at some point. Apparently it will not need a modification of the console.
Anyway, if you live in HK, maybe you will want to get your husband a HK release with HK warranty (would suck if he had to spend loads of money to have it repaired if anything wrong with it), and the price is kind of settled by Sonystyle stores or Toys r us.
If you don't care about the HK warranty, then get a japanese paralel import at 188 Wanchai road if you live on the island, or in Samshuipo if Kowloon side, many different value packs with different games, you'll have to see which one you want to get your husband, finding the better price should be easy as all the shops are next to each other.
