New in town

Hi everyone,

My name is Mina. I am vietnamese, studied and graduated in the US. I am moving to Hong Kong where my husband lives and works in a few days. I found this site and I got so happy. I need to take cantonese lessons so that I could find a job in financial field. Do you know any good school to teach conversational cantonese?
Also love sports, salsa dance, any place for this kind of activities?
Love to make more friends, looking forward to knowing all of you
Regards
Mina

Hi

if you want to learn cantonese, you can try to visit the web of Chinese University of Hong Kong- www.cuhk.edu.hk as there are some courses for foreigner to learn Cantonese.

By the way , what kind of sport you love to play?

regards
Jan

What kind of jobs are you planning to do in the financial field though?

You can come out to the meetings hosted by some of the people in here. Just look for the postings though.

It is a multicultural mix though. There ones that do not drink to the ones that can drink.

Hahaha... can have dinner meet at times too. Oh well.

I think learning Cantonese is difficult though.
You might be assigned to the Expat crowd at first.
I used to work as a Financial Consultant in HK but it didn't work out. I was in group that targets the Expats. Being Financial Consultant is similar to an insurance agent. YOu must have a thick face though. You must keep on coming back though. But if you can work with Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, the big ones, it is the best. But if you want clients to be assign to you, it is better to work in the banks but the commission may not be as a high but you will have a salary though.

Oh well

Mina: I'm taking mandarin lessons at the Hong Kong Learning Language Center (hkllc.com) but they also offer cantonese lessons. They're very flexible in terms of scheduling, start date, etc and the lessons are reasonably priced. The staff & instructors are wonderful.
