Language and cultural exchange Hi all, My very first post in this forum... I'm a native Chinese girl in HKG, wanna search for native French and German people for language and cultural exchange. I'm a beginner in French but no knowledge in German. However, think it will be beneficial to my work if I can speak German, so I'm considering to learn it too. If anyone has interest, come on, write me now!! I can teach you Cantonese and Mandarin in return. All other people with different nationality are welcome to be my friend too!! Cheers, Chris

Hi Chris, I´m not German but my mother language is German (I´m from Austria). I´ll arrive in HK at the end of HK and will stay at least for a year. I had already learned Mandarin for 2 years but it would be great if a native speaker could practice with me once in a while. So if you´re interested in learning German and help me to improve my (bad) mandarin let me know. greetings Franz

Hi Franz, That will be great!! However, my mother tongue is Cantonese but I do speak fair Mandarin. So, let's catch up when you arrive here. When are you coming? Think you made a typo in your message. Do you mean at the end of this year? What are you going to do here? for study? for work? Anyway, will be great to meet ya! Cheers, Chris

Hi Chris, yeah sorry was a mistake at my last email. I´ll arrive at the end of August and will be studying at the HK Polyu - it´s an exchange program for my master study. Are you from HK or from somewhere else in south China? ²gatts: I know that it is hard to find native mandarin speaker in HK. But in order to even improve my mandarin it would be great to talk to somebody beside my mandarin classes. greets, Franz

Austsnowboarder: Have you thought about going to Mainland China to learn Mandarin? If you do, you can go to the Northeast part of China. They do have more of the standard Mandarin though. You can find some Universities in China to teach German as well. There are Universities that teach French. There are a quite a number of Chinese students going to Germany for further studies as well. Think about that? But the pay maybe lower in HK but you will get your own place to live that's for sure.

Mind if I join your language exchange? I am an GBF (German Born Filipino). German is my mothertongue. Mon francais est merde and my Cantonese as well. Now that I live in HK I just cannot just get by with "ying man, mh goi!". Maybe we could help each other out? You can reach me directly via dicesix@gmail.com.

emperorau: Thank´s for your advice but I figured out that it will be the best choice to spend my year abroad in HK because my major is Finance. I can still do my internship at the mainland. Franz

Austsnowboarder: Sure you can do an internship on the Mainland. More and more foreign banks are entering into China. According to the WTO, China must open the market freely in 2006 to all the foreign banks in all cities of China. I'm not sure if I'm correct or not. I think it is. Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong. You can think about Shanghai as well. Shanghai is financial capital of China. Think about that. Also, their is a huge expat in Shanghai as well.
