Thanks a lot guys!

I am using Verizon here in States. I don't want to make it too complicated, so I think I will just rent a cell for a week in HK.

I checked the CSL web site, the rental fee for handset is HK$35/day.

For the call back to the States, looks like there are 2 options:

IDD1718
Peak Rate: $1.28
Off-Peak Rate: $0.33

IDD 001
$6.80 (no difference btw peak and off-peak rate)

Why there is such a big difference of rate btw IDD 1718 and IDD 001? Quality of sound? Service?

Anyway, if I rent for a week, the whole pkg will be:

Handset HK$35/day

SIM calling cards (depending on how much I prepay)
Can I get the $ back for the unused prepaid amount when I return the phone?
Where can I add more $ to the SIM card?
Do I have to go back to the store where I pick up the cell?

Refundable Deposit: up to HK$500

Any other fee?

Thank you for all the help!

You should be able to buy top up credit at most telephone shops and the stores / supermarkets sell them also. (Depending on which brand u get) . Also some of the brands have web sites that u can log onto and do ur top up on line.

Smartone Prepaid Sim Cards are good.

PLDT calling cards for $50 HK you get to call the states for 190 Minutes.

prepaid sim

don't you need to purchase a number or register for one? what you're saying is you can bring any unlocked capable gsm phone and just purchase a prepaid sim card?! If so then i assume the prepaid card comes with a number preprogrammed into the chip, or will you still be using your existing number...say from tmobile?

The sim card will come with its own number.

Well if you travel most often your better off buying an unlocked quad band phone.

Cingular gives the unlock code as well. They cannot deny this code as a matter of policy.
Cingular will unlock your phone if u have had it on your account for 90 days, no past due balance and International roaming feature on account. However it does take 5-7 business days. T-Mobile is similar

Both New World and Peoples offers .25 cents a minute HKD to call locally or back to US, Canada, Singapore, and China (and landlines in a bunch of other countries) That is with prepaid! Check it out!
