i can tell you my expat friends' and my story...main question is "have you got the time for it?"

I've got two such novels. One you've probably heard of is The World of Suzy Wong by Richard Mason. You can find it in any bookstore in HK. The other may be a bit more rare, called Kowloon Tong, by Paul Theroux. Try amazon to find it. Both are very good reading.
